Facebook turns 10!
Yes, good ol’ Facebook turned 10, today! Crazy to think that one of the biggest social media sites was developed by a college student, Mark Zuckerberg, in his dorm room. Fun fact: It was originally called “The Facebook”.
Back in 2004, Facebook users could only sign up if they had a valid e-mail address from certain colleges, universities, companies, and organizations. Now pretty much anyone who has a valid e-mail can join; Grandmas, Parents, Aunts and Uncles, teenagers, etc. Facebook has definitely transformed itself over the past 10 years.
Facebook has introduced us to a whole new perspective of a “News Feed”, user profiles, “Likes”, game requests like Farmville, and photo sharing. No one had anticipated the growth of Facebook as it is today. There’s currently 1.2 BILLION users on Facebook.
When I signed up in October 2006, I never thought it would be what it is today, or even still using the darn site.
Happy Birthday, Facebook! Maybe in the next years to come we will get a “Dislike” button? Make sure you post, today, in celebration of this monumental social networking site.
