Apple Releases New Products for 2015
Well, it’s official! Apple has finally announced its new products for 2015. Here’s the scoop…
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus: “While they may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones,” stated Tim Cook. The new updates definitely give us something to be excited about – metallic colors which now include rose gold (still available in silver, gold, and space gray); an upgraded 7000 series aluminum construction (an aircraft-grade material that makes the phones very unlikely to bend); 3D touch screen aka “Force Touch” (a feature originally introduced on Apple trackpads and the Apple Watch); camera upgrades that include a 12 megapixel iSight rear camera loaded with 50% more pixels than iPhone 6, a 5 megapixel front-facing camera that allows for sharper selfies, and a new photography feature called “Live Photos” that bring still images to life by capturing a moment in motion; a new A9 processor and faster fingerprint sensors; and new charging docks that match the same colors of the iPhone. Hurry up! The pre-sale began on September 12, phones will hit stores on September 25.
Apple TV: “There has been so much innovation in entertainment and programming through iOS apps, we want to bring that same excitement to the television,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “Apps make the TV experience even more compelling for viewers and we think apps represent the future of TV.” New features for Apple TV include a third-party App Store, a new remote that features a glass touch surface on the top half that allows you to navigate the Apple TV with swipes and other gestures, Siri controls, and a the all-new tvOS operating system that enables app developers to create new apps and games specifically for Apple TV. Available in a 32 GB and 64 GB version, both are expected to start shipping in October.
iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4: The iPad just got bigger and faster with the iPad Pro, featuring a 12.9” retina display with 5.6 million pixels, and a new A9X 64-bit chip that makes it 1.8 times faster than the previous “desktop class” iPad. Weighing just over 1 ½ pounds, the iPad Pro is super thin and provides a 10-hour battery life. Apple also introduced Apple Pencil for iPad Pro and the new Smart Keyboard (available for purchase separately). “iPad Pro is the most advanced and powerful iPad we have ever made,” states Apple’s Philip Schiller. While the iPad Pro is garnering most of the attention, let’s not forget the new iPad Mini 4 featuring a thinner, more portable design that offers 30% faster CPU and 60% faster graphics powered by an A8 chip with second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture.
Apple Watch: Look out for sportier and more fashionable options with Apple Watch that now include a wrap-around brown leather Hermes band, sports bands that range from vibrant colors to neutral tones, and new gold or rose gold watch color options. The operating system got an upgrade as well with watchOS 2 (arrives as a free update on September 16) that makes apps faster and more fluid, introduces new watch faces, and the ability for third-party apps to display information on the watch. The watch now features more than 10,000 watch apps such as Facebook’s Messenger app, GoPro, iTranslate, and Maps.
